Roger Waters’ son Harry recently reminisced about the fateful day in 2016 when he was fired from his father’s band during in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
After fourteen years playing the keyboard and the organ in the band, and three massive world tours, Harry Waters was fired, shortly before the planned “Us + Them” tour: “I was fired. It was pretty miserable.”
Roger Waters never explained why he sacked the familiar cast of characters he’d been working with for a fresh-faced and sharp new group of people, but Harry suspects that the Pink Floyd leader wanted a change.
“I think he just wanted a change of blood, something new, something fresh. I’m not sure of his exact reasoning, but everyone except two people [keyboardist Jon Carin and guitarist Dave Kilminster] got fired. But the other guys that got the sack weren’t his son, so it was doubly hurtful for me.”
Harry Waters was disturbed after being fired from his job, but he still maintained a cordial relationship with his father. In an interview, he revealed that he had planned to attend Roger’s “This Is Not a Drill” tour in Los Angeles last year. Unfortunately, he had to cancel his plans due to health problems.
“My kids and I came down with a nasty throat infection, not Covid, and he didn’t want us to come. But my wife, Richelle [Rich], went.”
